Each of us had a unique KA experience, but no matter how different our experiences were, we can all agree on one thing – KA taught us invaluable lessons that we couldn’t imagine our lives without. In a recent survey, W. DeFoor ’87 shared how his KA experience shaped him as a professional.
Here’s what he had to say:
“Through KA, I learned honor, integrity, and personal responsibility, which are core values that I use every day in my professional and leadership roles. Among other things, I learned to solve problems while dealing with those with differing opinions. Also, learning the value of collaboration and teamwork were valuable skills I learned while living in the KA house. Dealing with problems or those who disagree with you head on is a lesson I have used in almost every school, work, and civic role I have had since college. I am currently in my 15th year of practice as a surgeon at one of the busiest children’s hospitals in the country. I am the directory of the Residency and Fellowship program and the director of clinical research. My wife is a practicing pediatrician, and we are raising two teenagers and a pre-teen son, so life is never dull!”
