Nearly 1.8 million soldiers and civilians were killed in the Vietnam War before it ended in 1975, but if you were a member of Alpha Sigma at Georgia Tech, you have something special in common with one of these fallen heroes.
James “Jim” Hunter was a member of Alpha Sigma, and he was regarded as a great friend and brother by those who knew him. Jim served with distinction in the Vietnam War, where he and his unit earned many exceptional awards for their gallantry. Most notably, he was the recipient of the Silver Star, which is the nation’s third highest military honor. But unfortunately, Jim was lost in the war in 1967 during action that earned his unit the prestigious Presidential Unit Citation.
Now, more than 50 years later, brothers found a way to remember him by completing the plans for a Memorial shrine dedicated to his memory in Alpha Sigma’s Alumni Room.
Former and current brothers of the Alpha Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha, family members, and comrades came together on Memorial Day weekend this year for a dedication ceremony that honored the service, sacrifice, and the life of Jim Hunter. We are grateful to those who attended and made the dedication of the memorial possible.
