Bill Morrison ’86

Q & A with Bill Morrison ’86

7/3/2002

For 13 years, Bill Morrison ’86 has been president of the House Corporation. It keeps him connected to Kappa Alpha. And while president, the fraternity got a new house. This brief Q&A interview is part of an ongoing series designed to help us get to know our brothers better.

Why did you join?
I joined as a sophomore after I had watched and liked them for a year.

Tell us about your favorite memory of the fraternity.
The general camaraderie was the best. I do remember a road trip to Auburn to hear a band. A bunch of us were eating in an Atlanta oyster bar and we just decided to go. The spontaneity was fun. Mostly, since we were in Atlanta, others came to visit us.

Did you live in the house? If so, who were your roommates? Tell us about a memorable time with them.
My roommates were Dan Gasaway ’86 and Steve Lisenby ’86. I believe I raised more cain than they did. I woke them up regularly.

What is your nickname, if applicable, and how did you get it?
I had a lot of nicknames. One was Bobo, but I don’t remember why I got that one.

With whom do you still stay in contact? Who would you most like to find?
I’m on House Corporation so I do stay in touch with a lot of people. Some of the regulars are Kelly McCutchen ’86, Mark Tiller ’48, Jeremy Hammerton ’91, and Brad Greene ’84. For a while I wondered what happened to Russ Abney ’86 but I just recently got an e-mail from him. I catch up with lots of guys at Homecoming.

What other activities or organizations were you involved with during your college days?
I played Lacrosse and was involved in lots of IFC committees.

What kind of influence has the fraternity had on your life since graduation?
Kappa Alpha has given me some of my best friends and they last through the years.

Tell us about your family: Have you married?  Do you have children?
I’m married and have a 20 month old daughter.

What do you do for a living?
I’m a commercial real estate developer. We do big projects like stadiums and office buildings. One of our current projects is two stadiums at Georgia Tech – the new baseball field and massive renovations at the football stadium. Working with House Corp., I also was project manager for the new fraternity house. It was kind of a ‘lunchtime project’ while I was at Tech for the stadiums.

What affiliations do you currently have and/or public service do you participate in?
I’m chairman of the Ga. Tech. Building Construction Alumni Advisory Board, a member of the College of Architecture Board and on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Emory Business School (where I got my MBA). I’ve also been President of the Kappa Alpha House Corp. for 13 years. I’m trying to slow down on extra-curricular activities so I can focus more on my family.

What hobbies do you enjoy?
When I have time, I like to hike, camp and travel.

What are your goals for the next few years?
Number one is to enjoy my family. I’d also like to continue to progress in my career.
