The 2016 Number 1 Michael Downing is ready for anything that is thrown in his direction, and is looking forward to bringing KA to new heights this year. A dedicated and hard-working guy, Michael knows what it takes to succeed in this position.
Why did you join KA?
I joined KA due to the brothers I was able to spend time with as a summer freshman. I was always made to feel at home and made to feel comfortable and never once considered other fraternities.
Why did you choose to run for chapter president?
Being chapter president has always been a goal of mine, begging with being “pledge class president” as a freshman. I feel I am respected by the entire chapter, I am a good leader, and I have many great ideas to try and take KA to the next level.
What are your top 3 goals/objectives during your term?
My top 3 goals as President are to improve KA’s image, become more involved on campus, and improve rush (hopefully by improving our image).
What are you most looking forward to in leading the chapter?
I hope to see not only change within KA but growth as a Chapter. As I stated earlier I hope to see KA take the next step in becoming an even better fraternity and chapter.
In your opinion, how does KA stand apart from other fraternities on campus?
KA has the best brotherhood around; every brother gets along and would sacrifice for one another without question.
What opportunities do alumni have to connect with the chapter this year? Why do you welcome alumni involvement?
Our alumni are members of KA just like us. They not only have experience but they have been through many of the situations we are going through now. I also feel alumni are an invaluable networking asset, something we do not exploit enough in my opinion.
Why are you proud to be a member of Alpha Sigma?
I am a proud member of Alpha Sigma for many of the reasons I have already stated, the brothers, the mutual respect, and the relationships I have formed that I will continue to have for the rest of my life.
